The Assistant Nurse Manager assists in planning, organizing, and directing nursing unit services, sharing 24/7 management and staffing responsibilities. They supervise nursing functions, ensure compliance with policies and maintain clinical competence to support patient care. This role requires a nursing degree, licensure, clinical experience, and leadership skills in an acute care hospital setting.

The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) is responsible for assisting the nurse manager in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating services of the unit. In collaboration with the nurse manager, assumes 24/7 responsibility for the management and staffing of the unit. The ANM manages and coordinates the unit, directs and supervises functions and activities, interprets policies/procedures/protocols, standards, and regulations as appropriate. The scope of responsibility spans all aspects of nursing care. The ANM maintains clinical competence and certifications to assist the unit when required.
