POSITION TITLE: Recreation Superintendent

DEPARTMENT: Parks & Recreation

SUPERVISOR: Director of Parks And Recreation

LOCATION: 1 Ballwin Commons Circle, Ballwin, MO

JOB SUMMARY:

Position is responsible for planning, coordination, implementation and supervision of employees, sport, recreational, camp, adult/senior, fitness, and aquatic programs and events. Work involves supervisory duties for all parks and recreation facilities including The Pointe at Ballwin Commons, North Pointe Aquatic Center and The Ballwin Golf Course Pro Shop and Events Center.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Direct and supervise the managers and staff of The Pointe at Ballwin Commons, North Pointe Aquatic Center and The Ballwin Golf Course Pro Shop and Events Center. Including nine full time, parks and recreation professionals and 300 part time/seasonal employees.
• Develop and implement priorities and ensure efficient daily operations across all three facilities.
• Create, manage, and track the annual budgets for each facility, optimizing financial resources.
• Develop bid specifications for recreation department equipment, supplies and projects.
• Responsible for all cash flow and accounting functions with program registration, point of sale, and membership pass sales for all facilities.
• Responsible for all functions of the recreation software, RecTrac.
• Oversee all aspects of recreational program development, ensuring the needs of the community and members are met.
• Recommends new recreation programs and recognizes trends.
• Plans for the effective and efficient delivery of services as directed.
• Maintain records to evaluate programs and prepare reports of program effectiveness, including attendance, schedules, budget and participant surveys.
• Oversees program promotional material, including correspondence, press releases, newsletters, flyers for the Parks and Recreation Department.
• Oversees the managing social media, marketing events and activities, and advertising campaigns.
• Plan and coordinate seasonal maintenance schedules, aquatic center preparation, and public space upkeep.
• Assist in the preparation and oversight of divisional budgets.
• Stays informed on legislative changes, administrative decisions, professional trends, technological advancements that may affect operations.
• Promote and provide excellent customer service internally with staff and externally with guests.
• Serves as the clerk of the Parks and Recreation Citizen Advisory Committee.
• Other duties as assigned

MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Solicits donations and sponsorships.
• Acts as a liaison with the Ballwin Historical Commission, Ballwin Days Committee and related public agencies.
• Completes duties of the recreation managers and other staff with regard to program supervision, registration, implementation in their absence.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• Expertise in parks and recreation management, including financial oversight , facility operations, and trends in the field.
• The ability to lead and supervise a large team, develop and evaluate recreation programs, and apply strong financial and administrative acumen.
• The capacity to manage multiple facilities simultaneously, analyze data to make informed decisions, and provide excellent customer service to both staff and the public.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Recreation & Leisure or a related field required; and
• Minimum five (5) years' increasingly responsible management experience required; and,
• Minimum of three (3) year experience in a leadership position required; and, Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred and;
• First Aid, CPR, and AED certification required within three months of hire and;
• Certified Pool Operator preferred; ability to obtain within six (6) months of date of hire; and
• The ability to perform moderate physical labor as necessary and able to lift up to fifty pounds.
