Amazon Leo is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. As a Mechanical Design Engineer for Leo Tooling, you will support the program on the transition from development into stable production. You will develop, design, analyze, and implement custom tooling and equipment required for assembling and testing the satellite. You will need to convert the requests from various teams into systems that are easy to use, cost effective, and accurate. In addition, you will be responsible for project management, cost estimate and scheduling.

This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position, and you’ll work with leaders in multiple technology areas. You’ll have relentlessly high standards for yourself and everyone you work with, and you’ll be constantly looking for ways to improve your product’s performance, quality and cost. Everyone on the team needs to be entrepreneurial, wear many hats and work in a highly collaborative environment. We will need to tackle problems that span a variety of domains.

Key job responsibilities
- Design and analysis skills and experience
- Procurement of parts/components/assemblies for tool/equipment
- Hands on life cycle management: Concept through equipment usage in production
- Mentoring and leadership for less experienced engineers
- System architect, concept and process development

Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS- 5+ years of electrical or mechanical engineering experience
- Experience with prototyping and implementation
- 2+ years of project management, including resource planning, managing schedules, reporting project status and prioritizing tasks experience
- 4+ years of experience with CAD Design of complex systems including 3D modeling, drawings, and GD&T
- 2+ years of experience of structural analysis including hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Experience with the project management of technical projects
- Movement and handling GSE experience of heavy load (>800 kg), high value hardware
- Overhead lift tooling experience
- Aerospace experience
- Load transfer of high value hardware, managing constraints

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
